Letter from Dwight Ellis

Dwight Ellis
I totally agree with Mr. Wolf and his assessment of the need to support our sheriff and the two districts being proposed for the November ballot. I consider myself a conservative person, who normally votes against taxes, but the public safety issues we are about to be dealt by the Federal Government not complying with the 1937 O & C Act and not renewing the safety net, have made it clear that if the citizens of Josephine County do not support the sheriff, we will be endangering the lives of our loved ones, friends and neighbors.
I must admit that I did not support Sheriff Gilbertson in the last election, but now see the error of my ways. He has been and continues to be one of the best sheriffs I have seen anywhere. He said he would work with the money he was provided and do the best he could and he has done just that. He put himself on emergency call so that his deputies could get the rest they need. He created many efficiencies in his operations. He has not used the media to argue with the commissioners. I really admire this man and support him fully. I hope you will join me in providing him with long term, stable funding this November. For me and my family, that will cost about $25 a month, the price of a basic alarm system or less than what I spend at the local coffee house each month.
My wife and I have pledged that 10 percent of my salary between now and the November election will go toward educating the public through the Political Action Committee that has been established. I would ask that you contribute whatever you can by going to the jocotoday.com website or by contacting editor@grantspassnow.com. Thank you.
