Campaign 2008

posted in Campaign'08 |

Hello, I’m Dale Matthews and I am a Josephine County voter just as you are.

I feel strongly that we should do more than just vote these days. So, thanks to GrantsPassNow.com and all of the primary candidates, I’ve compiled a complete collection of voter information for you.

From each of the May 20 commissioner and assessor candidates, I’ve included biographical and candidacy information. Click on a candidate’s button above and you’ll find details straight from that candidate - complete and unfiltered by the newspaper or radio or television.

If you want to read comments and from outside the candidate’s campaign, that’s here, too.
All registered voters who live in the county are eligible to vote in this county election primary. There are three commissioners who head the Josephine County government and two of the three positions are up for re-election now.

  • Position 1 is occupied by Dave Toler. He is not up for re-election at this time.
  • Position 2 is occupied by Jim Raffenburg. He has decided not to run for re-election.
  • Position 3 is occupied by Dwight Ellis. He will be on your May primary ballot.

There are eight candidates for position 2 and six candidates for position 3. The purpose of the primary election (to be completed by May 20) is to narrow the field to only two candidates for each position. We will vote again to choose the final winner in the general election (to be completed by November 04).

I say “to be completed by…” because Oregon is unique among the states in that we vote by mail. Therefore, you may cast your vote as soon as you receive the county ballot in the mail.

According to the County elections office, official primary ballots are “scheduled to be taken to the post office May 2nd. Most people will receive them the week of May 5th.”

If you are not registered to vote in Josephine County, you can register to participate in the general election by clicking on the following underline www.co.josephine.or.us

If you are a registered voter, your ballot should arrive during the week of May 5th through May 9th. If you have not received a ballot in the mail by May 9th, immediately call the County Elections Office at 474-5243. You can call that number right now if you’re unsure whether your voting status is currently “active.”

Your ballot will include mailing information. You also have the option to drop off the ballot in person at one of several locations (included in the ballot information).

Keep in mind that your vote can only be counted if it is received by the county by 8:00 p.m. on May 20, 2008.

Again, I have gathered this Campaign’08 material for you to help you choose which candidate to support with your vote. And thanks to GrantsPassNow.com for helping.

Yours, Dale Matthews
